The Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule will provide guidance on reimbursement in these settings.
We wanted to clarify that if MFTs/MHCs are eligible for incident to billing that this would only apply to FQHC/RHC and hospital or CAH outpatient settings, and not in the OP clinic setting. Is this all accurate?
MFTs and MHCs who meet all applicable requirements for auxiliary personnel (defined at 42 CFR 410.26(a)(1) https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-42/chapter-IV/subchapter-B/part-410/subpart-B/section-410.26) could participate in furnishing care under the supervision of a physician or other practitioner who is enrolled in the Medicare program to provide services incident to the billing practitioner’s professional services in accordance with our regulation at § 410.26.
Were MFTs and MHCs added to MIPS eligible clinicians?
No, they are not considered MIPS eligible clinician types at this time.
